Barbara Jane Hartlage (nee Hood)
Barbara Jane Hartlage, 76, of Bear, Delaware passed away peacefully at Seacrest Village Nursing Home in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey on January 16th, 2020. Barbara was born on April 7th, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the only daughter of Ernest Hood and Betty Jane Thompson.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Barbara was honorably discharged in 1962. After her military service ended, she worked for the State of Delaware and the National Federation of the Blind. With her husband, Barbara enjoyed concerts, musicals, dinner theater, and weekend drives to Rehoboth Beach and Colonial Williamsburg. She looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren. Barbara liked to shop for thoughtfully-chosen gifts for them, and for additions to the numerous collections that brought her joy. She entertained herself with all kinds of puzzles: jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, and crosswords. She delighted in music and dancing, and she could hardly listen to a familiar tune without singing along.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Anthony Joseph Hartlage Sr. as well as by her daughter Lorraine Logan, her son William P. Hartlage Sr., her grandson William P. Hartlage Jr., her parents, and her sister-in-law Catherine Ward.
Barbara is survived by her devoted daughter Barbara J. Benvenuti; sons Anthony J. Hartlage Jr. and Mark P. Hartlage, Sr.; and their spouses Andrew, Beth, and Catherine. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicole, Daniel, Mark, Michael, Matthew, Andrew, Colleen, Brandon, and Rachel; several great-grandchildren; her brother Walter S. Hood and his wife Karen; and by many nieces and nephews.
Her service will be held Friday January 24, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
