MORRIS, BRUCE CHARLES, age 69, of West Creek, N.J., formerly of Shamong, N.J. passed away peacefully, January 17, 2022 at home. Born in Woodbury, N.J. was raised and lived in Laurel Springs, N.J. until he joined the U.S. Navy in February, 1970. Bruce was assigned to the destroyer tender USS Tidewater, later assigned to the cruiser USS Newport News serving, 9 months in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in February, 1976. Bruce returned home to Mays Landing, N.J., and began working as an appliance repair technician, and then entered into the construction field, ultimately working as a Construction Supervisor with Fentell Construction Co., retiring from that position in 2012. He enjoyed all of the offerings of being on the creek in West Creek, including boating, wildlife, and his mancave under the house. He was very proud of his annual turtle rescue program. Saving over 400 hatchlings in one year. He was honorary “mayor” of Dock Road, as he traveled up and down the street daily to check on the fisherman at the end of the road, catch up on local happenings, and ensure all was right in his little piece of heaven. He was predeceased by his parents, William C. and Jessie Morris. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Lee Morris (nee Blank), his sister Millie Traa (Rick), brother Bill Morris (Susan), brother Craig Morris (Peggy), brother-in-law Charles Blank (Joyce), and sister-in-law Joyce Robbins (Bill), also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life on Friday, February 18, 2022 at WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J., 08087. All are invited to the visitation with the family from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Celebration of Life to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal shelter, wildlife rescue center, or charity of your choice.
