Bub Johnson Obituary

George H. “Bub” Johnson Jr. passed away at home, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, October 17, 2025, at the age of 91. Bub was born in West Creek New Jersey. He lived his whole life in the West Creek and Parkertown area.

As a young man, Bub began his trade as a mason. He started his own business, DuRite Masonry, in 1973. Much of our community exists because of his life’s work. He worked until his retirement in 2003.

Bub was an avid fisherman and hunter, with his main passion being deer hunting. He was proud to be one of the original founders of the Little Eagle Gunning Club, established in 1968, in West Creek, NJ. The club is still in operation today.

Bub was a recipient of the Hurley Conklin Award, which was presented to him at the Barnegat Bay Decoy and Gunning Show in 2002. The award is given in honor of those who lived their life in the Barnegat Bay tradition.

A larger than life, powerhouse of a man, Bub would always greet you with a smile and a booming “Hey, how ya doin’?” He was a loyal friend to many people, and always ready to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed.

Bub met the love of his life, Marlene, at Dom Polski’s in Absecon NJ. He asked Marlene to dance, and they wound up dancing the night away! They were over the moon for each other from that night forward. Over the years, their love of travel included many places both domestic and abroad, but Bub’s greatest legacy was here at home.

Bub was most proud of his family and loved them with all his heart. Many a family dinner included telling stories of the pranks and jokes that were played on him when the kids were young, or with the guys from the gunning club during his favorite time of year…deer season! So many wonderful stories. So much laughter!

Bub is predeceased by his parents, George H. Johnson Sr. and Evelyn Johnson, his three sisters, Elizabeth Allen, Patricia Courtney, and Ida Bozarth, and his daughter, Sharon Senka.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene. He is also survived by his sons, George H. Johnson III, Don (Missy) Johnson, Thomas (Gina) Johnson, David (Linda) Johnson, and daughters, Beverly (Robert) Miranda, Cathleen (Roger) Hammond, and Teri Michaud.

Bub leaves behind fifteen grandchildren: Matthew, Sean, Gianna, Gabriella, Tori, Sophia, Adam, Erika, Nathan, Kayla, Kalina, Venus, Josh, Collin, and Ashley. He also leaves behind fourteen great grandchildren.
