Vietnam War veteran, devoted husband, and beloved father of three, Dennis P. Schmieder passed away on August 12, 2023 at the age of 77 surrounded by loved ones.
A devout family man and a voracious reader, Dennis was born in 1946 to Martha and Lawrence Schmieder. Dennis grew up in Elizabeth, NJ along with his brother, Lawrence. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1964.
Dennis was drafted into the Army after high school and just three months after he married his beloved wife Mary. He served honorably in the United States Army, 1st Calvary Division during the Vietnam War.
A true patriot, Dennis continued serving our country with distinction for more than 20 years in the United States Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant before his retirement.
Dennis worked in the service department in the automobile industry for the majority of his adult life. He ultimately retired from Causeway Ford in Manahawkin as Service Department Manager. Dennis made many friends, both co-workers and patrons, during his time at Causeway where he was known for his loyalty, work ethic, and offbeat sense of humor.
Dennis will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog Rocky. He is survived by his precious wife Mary Schmieder of 58 years; children Wendy Tomczyk (Brian), Dennis Schmieder, and Donna Spedaliere (Christopher); and 7 grandchildren, Kolin Rutan, Kirsten Rutan, Miles Schmieder, Max Schmieder, Olivia Spedaliere, Remy Spedaliere, and Paul Spedaliere. Brother Lawrence Schmieder and wife Teri and many loved nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Dennis is planned; Wood Funeral Home at 134 E. Main St., Tuckerton, New Jersey Wednesday August 16 from 7 to 9 pm and he will be laid to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown on Thursday August 17 at 11:30 am
