Elizabeth I Allen

ALLEN, ELIZABETH “BETTY” 93, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away peacefully at home May 8, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sprague Town, NJ, currently known as West Creek NJ, Betty lived most of her adult life in Little Egg Harbor NJ where she was involved with many community activities including the PTA, Cub Scouts, DEBORAH Heart and Lung, the Tuckerton Seaport Founders Club, the VFW Ladies Auxillary, and The Republican Club. In addition, she was very involved with her church, The Community of the Crucified One.

Betty was a graduate of Tuckerton High School in 1948. After working for a short time for the County Sheriff’s Department in Ocean County and the IBEW Local #334, Betty worked as the Little Egg Harbor Township Municipal Clerk for approximately 30 years before retiring to spend more time with her church and family.

Betty is predeceased by her father, Herbert Johnson; mother, Evelyn Wallace; Sister, Pat Courtney; Husband, James W. Allen; and son, Belford Taylor Allen. She is survived by her sons, James Winfield (Debbie), John Scott (Gerri), Russell Lee (Kathleen); and Thomas Robert (Jane); her brother, Herbert “Bub” Johnson (Marlene); sister, Ida Bozarth;  sister-in-law, Nancy Speck; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 10 am -12 pm, with an 11 am service at Wood Funeral Home, 134 E. Main St., Tuckerton, NJ 08087. Graveside service to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, N. Green St., Tuckerton.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Betty Allen to the Tuckerton Seaport, 120 West Main Street, Tuckerton, NJ 08087 or the Humane Society of Atlantic County, 1401 Absecon Blvd, Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
