Eugene M. Groff

GROFF, EUGENE M., 97, passed away peacefully, at home on Friday, August 13, 2021.  Gene was born in Merchantville, N.J. on October 23, 1923, to parents Donald and Pearl (Wilson)   Groff.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1943-1946.  After honorable discharge Gene married his wife of 75 years, Margaret (Elberson).   They moved to Wading River, N.J. where he resided until the end of his time.  Gene worked for Charles Shoemaker as a truck driver for close to 40 years.  After retirement, he spent most of his time with his family, as well as clamming, fishing and hunting.  He was happiest when on the water.  Eugene is predeceased by both his parents Donald and Pearl, as well as his 7 siblings (Merrill, William, Margaret, Helen, Donald, Ralph and Russell), and his son Eugene Jr.  He is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Harold “Skip”, daughter Carol Speck (Richard), son Larry (Paula), and son Kevin (Marion), as well as 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.   WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J. is handling the arrangements.  A Memorial Service will be held at a later date @ The Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery.
