PHARO, LAWRENCE “LARRY” RICHARD, Larry was born December 18, 1939 at home in Tuckerton, then becoming a resident of Whiting for 52 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1960-1964. After the Navy, he worked at the Tuckerton Beacon newspaper, until he joined the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. He worked in the Sheriff’s Department from 1963 until he retired in 1993. His hobbies were Federal Bird Banding (Ornithologist). During his time as an ornithologist he banded 60,000 birds, both wild and water fowl. He also enjoyed building and flying remote controlled aircraft. He was a member of “Pinebarren Modelers” club. Larry was predeceased by his parents Robert F. Pharo (Bub), and Dorothy Pharo, also his step-mother Laurie Pharo, brother Robert and his granddaughter Juliana Baker. He is survived by his partner/fiancée of 41 years, Ruthann Deegan, 2 daughters, Barbara and Lynda, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Service will be Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 10 AM, all at WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J. Burial will follow service, in Greenwood Cemetery, N. Green St., Tuckerton.
