Leonard Varn Obituary

Varn, Leonard K.  November 8, 1953 – November 5, 2021 - Leonard “Lenny” Varn loved many of the simple things in life: a brilliant sunset, his friends and family, a day on the boat (especially if the fishing was good), and a lively cookout that had to include barbecued chicken and homemade macaroni and cheese. He was a father, a brother, an uncle, a husband, a grandfather, and a friend to all. He passed November 5th, 2021, at the age of 67 in Tuckerton, NJ.  Born in Orlando, FL on November 8th, 1953, to Flora Corrine Kipp, Lenny was proud to be a Florida native. An acclaimed football player often referred to as “Freight Train,” Lenny graduated from Boone High School in 1971. The same high school, he was always quick to note, where his grandfather, Robert Earl Kipp was appointed the first principal in 1952. Lenny went on to complete a Master’s in Business Administration from the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins College before embarking on an illustrious career in human resources. His welcoming smile and empathy made him a natural at his job, and he was known for his professionalism and leadership.  It was while working for CNA Insurance in Massachusetts that he met his wife, Cary. They were married for 16 years and built a beautiful life on the water in Tuckerton, NJ. He welcomed visits to New Jersey from his Florida family and friends, including his daughter and his five grandchildren, but he never missed a chance to spend time at his beloved condo in Marathon, FL.  Leonard Kipp Varn is survived by his wife, Cary (Magnuson) Varn, his daughter, Laurie McLeod, his grandchildren, Evan Combs, Ellary Combs, Josephine Combs, David Combs, and Anselle Combs, his sister, Francine Oller(Steve), his brother, Mitch Varn(Terry), as well as his much-loved sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews and other extended family who will miss him dearly.  Visitation will be 11:00 am Saturday November 13, 2021, at Tuckerton United Methodist Church 134 N. Green Street, Tuckerton NJ 08087, Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 noon.  In lieu of flowers donations in Lenny’s memory may be made to Tuckerton United Methodist Church.  WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J., 08087 is handling the arrangements.
