SCHMIEDER, MARY B., AGE 80, peacefully joined her beloved husband, Dennis P. Schmieder, in eternity on November 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Gunnar Earling and Anna Nielsen, Mary grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she graduated from Battin High School in 1964. In Elizabeth, she built the foundation of the importance of a life steeped in love, family, and devotion. She later moved to Bayville, New Jersey with her husband, Dennis, where they made a home and she lovingly raised her three children. Upon retirement, Mary and Dennis moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where they embraced a joyful second act of life filled with wonderful friends and cherished memories. In recent years, Mary returned to Little Egg Harbor, NJ, to be closer to her family, who remained the center of her world.
Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures-a fun day at the casino, a drink of Southern Comfort before bed, and rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers – but nothing mattered more to her than family. Her loyalty, laughter, and unwavering love touched all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Earl Nielsen, and her brother-in-law Lawrence Schmieder.
Mary leaves behind her loving children: Wendy Tomczyk (Brian), Dennis Schmieder, and Donna Spedailere (Chris); her seven grandchildren: Kolin and Kirsten Rutan, Miles and Max Schmieder, and Olivia, Remy and Paul Spedailere; and her treasured great-grandson Deagan Tuomey. She is also survived by her two dear sisters-in-law, Barbara Nielsen and Theresa Schmieder, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mary will be remembered for her generous heart, her spirited personality, and the love she gave freely to all of those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life. Her legacy of strength, humor, and kindness will live on in all who loved her.
