Nicholas von Arnold Obituary

von Arnold, Nicholas J., 61 of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey passed away in his home on March 18, 2020. He is survived by his ex-wife Deborah, his four children: Amanda, Rebecca, Emily-Anne, and Zachariah, his three sons-in-law: Paul, Chad, and Jason, his six grandchildren: Kailyn, Louis, Charlie, Isaac, Alexis, and Alivia, his younger siblings: Elizabeth and Jeremy, his brother in-law Scott, and his niece and nephews: Charles, Andrew, and Cecilia. He is predeceased by his son Alexander.

Nick was born to John von Arnold and Cecilia Soemers on November 22, 1958 in New York City, New York. He graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1976 and went on to receive a degree from Stonybrook University in Political Science in 1981. He married Deborah J. Mullaney in 1983 and moved to Trenton, New Jersey, he then settled in the shore town of Little Egg Harbor.

Nick was a man of many hats, working a varied number of jobs throughout his career. He was a social studies teacher, a group home leader for teenagers with special needs, a case manger for New Jersey’s Division of Developmental Disabilities, a housekeeping manager at Tropicana Casino and Resorts, before ending his career due to disability with Wawa, having worked various positions in various locations.

The job Nick loved the most however was that of Daddy. He was a devoted father of five, and a beloved foster father to more than a dozen others throughout his eight years as a foster parent. He was adored and treasured by his grandchildren, being called Pop-pop his absolute favorite thing of all.

Nick played guitar, loved history, political debate, music, the water, sports of any kind (provided it was a New York team, and excluding the Mets), and being surrounded by his family. He had a heart that couldn’t be weighed which had room for anyone who needed him. More than anything, he was kind, a trait increasingly harder to come by in this world, and he will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

With respect to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a date to be announced when larger gatherings are once again permitted.  WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J. is handling the arrangements.
