WOOD, ROBERT C. SR. 88 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Mystic Meadows Rehab & Nursing Home, LEH, NJ. He was born in Trenton, NJ and resided in Hamilton Twp., Mercer County. After employment at C.V. Hill in Trenton he joined Carpenters Local 31 in April, 1964 serving as Treasurer for over 20 years and retiring after 33 years. He then became the Facilities Manager for the Hamilton Township Board of Education. He was a longtime member of the NJ School Building & Grounds Assn. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Little Egg Harbor, NJ. He then volunteered for the ad hoc Bldg. Comm. for LEH and worked for the Referendum Committee devoting 9 years of his retirement and was elected to serve as a member of the LEH School Board. He became the Project Manager for the addition to the George J. Mitchell Elementary School and later Project Manager for the Early Childhood Center which bears his name. It was dedicated to him in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 13. 2012. In addition he was a lifetime member of the Hamilton Elks Lodge #2262. Bob was a devoted fan of N.Y. Yankees and Phila. Eagles as well as an avid gardener specializing in hot peppers. He perfected his own hot pepper sauce and became known throughout the area as the "Hot Pepper Man".
Robert was predeceased by his mother and father Gertrude McGarrity Wood and William Wood and a brother William J. Wood. He is survived by his wife Marva R. Wood of LEH, son Robert C. Wood, Jr. of Jackson, NJ, daughter Cynthia Wood Rue of Hopewell, NJ, step-son David B. Marciniak of LEH, step-daughter Marva J. McEldowney of Lubbock, TX., sisters Judith Drews of Hamilton, NJ, and Ann Myernick of Hamilton, NJ, brother Gerald T. Wood of Princeton, NJ, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Committal service 1:30 PM Tuesday March 9, 2021 at Brig. General William C. Doyle Vet Memorial Cemetery 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ.
