Gruebele, Roger T. Sr., 75, of Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ passed away on Monday, February 6th, 2023, with family by his side. He was born on March 6th, 1947. The beloved son of Anne McFadden and stepson of William “Mac” McFadden, he grew up in Brooklyn, NY alongside his brother, Edward. After graduating high school in 1966, he joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged after his service to our country in the spring of 1971. He relocated to Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ with his wife, Rene, in 1973 where they settled down to start a family. Through the years, they raised 4 loving children, Roger Jr., Joanna, Francesca and Jeremiah. During his 50+ years spent in this quiet summer town down by the shore, he held various jobs including being a police officer in Ship Bottom, NJ, he worked at Shop-Rite in Manahawkin, NJ, and was also the co-owner of a local taxi service based in West Creek, NJ. His hobbies included fishing, coin collecting, boating and shooting at the local gun range. But his greatest passion in life were his children. Above all, he was a devoted father who loved his children dearly. Mr. Gruebele will be most remembered for his no-nonsense attitude which was perfectly paired with a sarcastic sense of humor that was second to none. Standing 6 foot 8 inches tall, he had a formidable presence, but those that knew him best knew it was merely an attribute towards his protective nature as a father. His courageous battle with illness the last 10 years of his life exemplified the type of man he was. Refusing to leave his home right up until the very end, he chose to live out his remaining days the way he saw fit. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger Jr. and Sarah Gruebele; daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Charles Thomas; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremiah and Bethani Gruebele; his 5 grandchildren, Elijah, Leila, Isaiah, Gabriel and Jonathan; and his brother Edward “Skipper” Gruebele. Roger was predeceased by his beloved daughter Francesca Gruebele and his longtime, faithful, companion, Jill Hook. A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, March 19th, 2023. Family and friends will be contacted with the details. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, N.J. is handling the arrangements.
